International Women’s Media Foundation organizes trip to Africa

Women journalists with at least three years of experience and excellent English skills can apply for a reporting trip.

The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is leading five trips to Africa over the course of 2015 as part of its African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative. The next round will take participants to Rwanda/DRC and Uganda.

Ten women will be selected for the trip to report on conservation and sustainable agriculture in Rwanda/DRC from Jan. 26 to Feb. 12, 2016. And another group of six journalists will cover themes of democracy and governance in Uganda from Jan. 26 to Feb. 8, 2016.

All fellows will begin their trip in Nairobi, Kenya, where they will complete a comprehensive security training and an orientation about the African Great Lakes region and focus countries. Fellows then depart for about one week of in-country independent reporting from Rwanda/DRC or Uganda.

The IWMF pays for fellowship-related expenses including travel, lodging, meals and fixers/interpreters unless the fellow’s news organization wishes to assume these costs.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 3.
