Documentary festival accepting submissions

Documentarians from around the world can submit their work to this festival.

The Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival is accepting applications for its 2016 program. The Toronto-based event is the largest documentary festival in North America and will take place April 28 to May 8, 2016.

Hot Docs features two juried competition programs, Canadian Spectrum and International Spectrum, and several non-competitive programs. Selected feature-length films in the Spectrum programs are eligible for jury prizes. All selected short and mid-length films (except those in retrospective categories) will be considered by the jury.

For feature length films, Hot Docs strives to bring at least one filmmaker to Toronto for each invited film. The program provides hotel accommodation and a stipend for travel expenses, as well as an airport transfer, if required. For all other films, Hot Docs will provide festival accreditation for every credited director as well as one producer.

Films must have been completed after Jan. 1, 2015 to be eligible for screening. The program accepts feature-length, mid-length and short films.

Submission fees for the regular deadline are CAD25 (US$18) for short films and CAD100 (US$75) for all films longer than 30 minutes.

The early submission deadline is Nov. 18. The regular deadline is Dec. 9.
