NewsU offers free webinar on US visa reporting
Journalists interested in covering U.S. immigration can attend this free online training session.
News University, a Poynter Institute e-learning project, is offering a webinar titled „Covering the U.S. Visa System and its Flaws.” The session, sponsored by the McCormick Foundation, will take place at 2 p.m. EST on Jan. 13, 2016.
The webinar will cover student visas, worker visas and lesser known visas like the investor visa, which gives immigrants residency in exchange for an investment in the U.S. economy.
Participants will learn:
- How to find reports, audits and investigations that will tip them off to visa issues and scandals and give them context for their reporting;
- How to analyze national and regional databases that can be localized for their reporting;
- How to develop story ideas that can jumpstart their work;
- How to keep up with the latest issues through following websites, social media and other journalists’ work; and
- How to find and evaluate the right experts and community groups to interview.
Registration is ongoing.
