Google launches Journalism Emergency Relief Fund
Google launches an emergency fund for small and medium local newsrooms. Romania is an eligible country!
Google opened applications for the Journalism Emergency Relief Fund on March 15, a global emergency fund dedicated to small and medium newsrooms serving local audiences, and Romania is on the list of eligible countries.
The purpose of the program is to financially support and encourage quality journalism during the crisis caused by the COVID-19 virus. The program does not provide exact limits on the requested funding, but mentions that they can be between several thousand dollars, for small newsrooms and several tens of thousands of dollars, for medium newsrooms. The money raised should be used to fund investigations and news production.
Eligibility:
Small and medium newsrooms from local media, with an online presence of at least 12 months and with a number of employees between 2 and 100.
Organizations can be registered as associations, non-governmental organizations, companies, they can have only digital presence or they can come from the traditional media (print, TV, radio).
Only news publications are eligible. Lifestyle, sports, business-to-business ones are not eligible.
Newsrooms with more than 100 employees may apply, but Google reserves the right to individually evaluate the eligibility of these cases.
Can’t apply: state-owned organizations and individuals.
Applications can be submitted by April 29, 2020 through an online form, and decisions will be made once applications are submitted. The company encourages the urgent submission of applications. Google reserves the right to close the application period before the official deadline, if the money made available is exhausted.
