The winners of the EPIC cross-border editorial projects contest

15 editorial teams enrolled in the project competition, and following the evaluation process undertaken by the jury, two individual projects focusing on Ukraine and one collaborative project will receive support from the Center for Independent Journalism (CIJ) and Internews within the Expanding Production of Independent Content (EPIC) project.

These are:

  • Content Media – an independent media production company that will publish in partnership with Pressone
  • The Media Investigative Association in Romania (BIRN Romania), part of the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN), which will publish on sinopsis.info.ro/
  • Mentes Maskent Association, publisher of Uh.ro (Udvarhelyi Hírportál) – a local Hungarian-language publication

The editorial teams will document, write/produce and publish (including translation) the proposed topics over the next six months (estimated period being between January – June 2024). The selected Romanian editorial teams will work on the production of the media content under the coordination of the journalist Vlad Stoicescu (co-founder of Dela0 & Să fie lumină, co-producer of the Judecata de Acum format), who is responsible for the editorial management of the project in Romania.

The three teams will document important themes identified at local/regional/national level, common across borders in the EPIC project countries (Armenia, Georgia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovenia and Ukraine) that have the potential to counter misinformation. Furthermore, the winners will produce multimedia and audiovisual content that will enable them to reach diverse audiences.

Internews is an international non-profit, non-partisan organisation with over 40 years of experience in media development. It supports independent journalism in more than 100 countries around the world, helping local media tackle journalistic issues and achieve financial sustainability.
